The Emmaus Social Center, a gathering place for elderly members of the local community, was officially opened today at the Leptir Restaurant in Doboj Istok. In the presence of numerous guests and local associations, the center’s work plan was presented, followed by socializing over coffee and lunch for all attendees.
Retirement is a phase of life in which many daily activities (such as work obligations, childcare, and responsibilities) suddenly come to an end. This transition often increases the risk of depression and loss of motivation for engagement in activities. Active aging refers to a lifestyle enriched with physical activity, healthy nutrition, and continued social involvement, all of which contribute to better quality of life and improved physical and mental health. This, in turn, significantly reduces the risk of depression, social withdrawal, and institutionalization among the elderly.
The strategic goal of the “Emmaus Social Center” project is to reduce the risk of institutionalization among the elderly population in Doboj Istok and surrounding areas, while also promoting a culture of healthy aging.
Visitors expressed great enthusiasm for the planned activities, which aim to empower the elderly, encourage their social engagement, and provide them with a safe and well-equipped space for gatherings.
This project is supported by the Ministry of Labor, Social Policy, and Return of the Tuzla Canton, to whom we extend our sincere gratitude on behalf of all future beneficiaries of the center.
