This morning, we said goodbye to the last groups of volunteers who, over the past two weeks, were the heart of the 20th EMMAUS International Youth Work Camp.
More than 90 volunteers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, France, Turkey, Italy, and Germany left a lasting mark on Potočari and the surrounding areas through their selfless dedication, teamwork, and positive energy.
This year’s main activity was the continued construction of the “House of Encounters” sports and recreational center in Pale near Potočari. Volunteers also took part in the “One Meal a Day” food distribution project and engaged in numerous sports, cultural, and educational programs – including a visit to the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
The camp was also host to the second Silver Frame Film Festival, which, thanks to cooperation with numerous partners, brought a rich film program to three different locations.
For 20 years, the EMMAUS camp has remained a unique place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing together young people from different countries for socially beneficial work, mutual understanding, and learning – giving them the opportunity to exchange their summer vacation for community service and invaluable experiences.
On the final evening, as a token of gratitude for their valuable contribution, all volunteers received certificates – accompanied by many emotions, hugs, and promises to return.
We thank everyone who was part of this story, with special appreciation to Bülbülzade Vakfi for supporting this year’s camp.
Srebrenica awaits you again next year!
