IFS-EMMAUS: DISTRIBUTED FOOD AND A LARGE NUMBER OF BACKPACKS, SLEEPING BAGS AND OTHER NECESSITIES FOR 500 MIGRANTS IN VELIKA KLADUŠA

For the past few days, IFS-EMMAUS employees visited immigrants who live in unappropriated accommodation in the wider area of Velika Kladuša. During visit IFS-EMMAUS team distributed meals, backpacks, clothes and sleeping bags. Specific tension can be felt these days in Kladuša, where the same pressure was felt by migrants as well as among the local population. Aware of the fact that the current situation was not easy for either, nor for residents, nor for immigrants because there were mass of immigrants and the patience of the citizens is measured in decibels of strong resentment caused by presence of immigrants and because of the overall unsolved situation.

Current situation is suits migrants, a large number of them will be able to cross the fateful gates of Kladuša forests they have occupied. Although the predictions of the local population are not promising because, as they claim, they return from the same forests with bloody legs and heads and without personal belongings that were stolen or smashed in an attempt crossing board. In the coming days, we will continue to distribute food and other necessities on the area of Velika Kladuša in accordance with the needs of migrants, because here is currently the largest concentration of people immigrants. During the conversations with a small number of local volunteers and on the other hand a with a large number of migrants who are currently out of camps over three thousand, we consider that dairy products such as sour cream and yogurt as well as canned food is something that could be an ideal fast meal. We will provide that sort of products and we will continue to distribute it to these people under the improvised accommodation in Velika Kladuša. Apart of the problem with the lack of food  there exist a problem of maintenance of personal hygiene, which is impossible in the current conditions. A huge number of immigrants also need medical intervention in the form of bandaging  of wound caused during the attempt of moving to the countries of the European Union.
