Today is World Day of the Sick with an aim on society sensitize to the needs of patients, and to provide better health care for them.
All people deserve a restful and carefree life, regular and quality nutrition and treatment with an extreme dose of respect. Apart from that, provide an attractive location of accommodation, care and home aproach to the beneficiary, are only some of the epithets with whom someone could primarily praise this Center.
For seventeen years, Reception center “Duje” presents a safe home for the most vulnerable categories of our society and it is one of the gratest projects of IFS-EMMAUS.
It’s a place where all-day care is addressed to more than 421 beneficiaries of different socio -health needs who in addition to the primary medical service, require understanding and a sensitive access at the level of acceptable human expectations. The work of the Center is focused on rehabilitation and resocialization with the ultimate goal of reintegration of beneficiaries, and the provision of services is realized through three organizational units:
– Center for the Old and Helpless Individuals;
– Center for Individuals with Mental Disorders;
– Center for Individuals with Disabilities.
It is equipped with modern medical equipment, an infirmary, a dental office and physical therapy room, social and defectology services and a psychologist are at the beneficiaries service. Beneficiaries themselves make great contributions to the work of the Center, who, within occupational therapies and tasks bring the Center’s routine closer to family atmosphere and harmony. Based on their commitment and with great support of occupational therapists, a large number of them are involved in music, theater and literary sections.
From the beginning of pandemic that unscrupulously ruled the world and in our suroundings as well, the Reception Center “Duje” was placed in front of unexpected exam which in spite of everything, had to end with a positive outcome for the benefit of all beneficiaries and employees. According to the instructions of the competent Crisis Units, the complex of the Center has been put into total lockdown. Rigorous provisions that have been imposed in the Center and which were related to restrainig orders concerning /related to entering and leaving/ entering the third person in the Center, bans on visiting beneficiaries, leaving on weekends, mandatory wearing of protective equipment for prevention of Covid-19 infection, resulted in a state without serious consequences in a period when suroundings was under the total collapse, and from day to day the number of infected increased.
With regular disinfections of complete accommodation and working rooms, as well as external surfaces of the Center led to the suppression of the entry of the virus. We know that closing the doors of the Center most affected beneficiaries themselves and their families, but we took such measures due to the welfare and preservation of their health situation, that eventually worth it. We hope that this grayness will pass soon, so we could continue with normal functioning, which is crucial for all our beneficiaries.
Built Masjid in RC „Duje“
For all beneficaiaries of the Islamic religion, thanks to the donor we have built a masjid where is ensured undisturbed prayer for beneficiaries. We are also in the process of making a project documentation for building two more religious spatial units where members of the Catholic and the Orthodox faith can unhindered approach prayer.
Planned construction in the Reception Center “Duje” in the next few years
Construction of a new infirmary
IFS-EMMAUS is implementing many projects in the Reception Center “Duje”, and therewith seeks to modernize the Center, and bring it closer to recognizable European care and rehabilitation institutions of all vulnerable categories of society. The planned construction of a modern ambulance is of crucial importance because in that way the quality of provided services for beneficiaries will raise to an enviable level.
Construction of the Center for Individuals with Disabilities
Precondition for the implementation of different activities which, as an ultimate goal has the increase of quality and variety of services provided for the people with special needs, is the construction of a special and adjusted facility for their accommodation within the RC “Duje”. Currently, in RC “Duje” is accommodated from 90 to 100 people with special needs, that number is variable. By building facilities for accommodation of people with special needs in the complex RC “Duje”, it would contribute to the improvement of carring conditions (adapted premises, adapted classrooms, space for physical therapy, as well as space for other types of specialist medical care).
