Don’t look at something we don’t have, look at something we can do! International Day of Persons with Disabilities was also celebrated at the Reception Center “Duje”

Today, employees of the Reception Center “Duje” organized a workshop with our beneficiaries on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness of the acceptability of people with disabilities in the social environment, concerning greater inclusion as well as on the possibilities and capacities of disabled people.

How to notice someone’s disabilities or possibilities at first perception. Whether we are often or almost always deceived by the eye and therefore we determine our final judgment. How ready we are not to look at what certain people don’t have, or try to see with a dose of patience what those people can do. Their strength and willingness often exceed some of our expectations and we will not so be surprised so rarely by their capabilities, which even we do not possess.

The annual celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 aims to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The celebration of this date does not seek to raise awareness of the benefits of integrating people with disabilities into all aspects of political, economic and cultural life. The theme of this day is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in the society of persons with disabilities, established by the World Program of Action concerning Persons with Disabilities, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982.

The supreme happiness of life is the conviction of being loved for yourself, or more correctly, being loved in spite of yourself.

Victor Hugo
