IFS-EMMAUS EMPLOYEES IN HUMANITARIAN MISSION IN NIGER

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. With a population of over 17,000,000 people, more than 50% live below the poverty line. A year ago, IFS-EMMAUS, in cooperation with the local organization AASH, launched a project of excavation water well in the poorest parts of the capital city, Niami. These days, IFS-EMMAUS employees, Lejla Smajić and Jusuf Fajić, are visiting previously excavated water wells and attending the excavation of new water wells.

Most of the water wells are located outside the safe zone of the city of Niami, where prevails the greatest poverty and scarcity of water. Niami cannot be compared to the main European cities we are used to, because You do not have a built road infrastructure, traffic signs or shopping malls there. The prices of food items are extremely high in relation to BiH, and the standard of income is extremely low, which has caused such poverty.

Team on a field also distributed food packages to poor families in the provinces of the city of Niami. In the coming days, they will also visit a couple of orphanages in order to see the possibilities for launching other forms of assistance. Mission of our visit is to show that our work in Niger is transparent and credible and to strengthen cooperation with all our donors and vakifs/charities, existing and future who decide to support the excavation of water wells in Niger and thus help the local population.

The price of one water well in Niger amounts 2,200.00 BAM. All those who want to do that, they can do it as it follows:
