International Day of Persons with Disabilities was marked at the Reception Center Duje

Today, employees of the Reception Center Duje organized a debate with our beneficiaries on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The aim of debate with the alternating attitudes of the affirmative and negative team was to raise awareness of the acceptability of persons with disabilities in the social environment. On greater inclusion as well as on the possibilities and capacities of disabled persons.

Are the persons with disabilities disabled? Such and similar issues related to today’s debate, mostly ended with alternating crossing attitudes and personal experiences and facts of the beneficiaries of the Reception Center Duje.

Whether we are often or almost always deceived by what we see with the eye and therefore determine our final judgment. How ready we are not to look at what some persons don’t have, but to try to see with a dose of patience what those people can do. Their strength and their will often surpass some of our expectations, so we will not so rarely be surprised by their capabilities that we do not even have.

The annual marking of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 has an aim to promote understanding issues of disability and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. Marking this date does not seek to raise awareness of the benefits of integrating people with disabilities into all aspects of political, economic and cultural life. The theme of this day is based on the aim of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in the society of persons with disabilities, established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982.

After debate was organized a lunch for all beneficiaries / participants in the premises of occupational therapy. With an aim to raise awareness on this topic, which needs to be discussed much more and beyond certain dates. Today was held a working meeting of employees of the Reception Center Duje where was discussed about these issues, presenting personal experiences and attitudes on integration of persons with disabilities in all segments of society.
