Period: From 10 July to 24 July 2020
About the project:
Back in 2006, the HO “International Forum of Solidarity-EMMAUS” initiated the organization of International Youth Work Camps. The next program goal of the Emmaus International Movement, according to which youth camps are organized around the world, IFS-EMMAUS, as a non-EU country, proposed in 2006 year the implementation of a youth camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an event for youth population. The goal will be directed to promotion of tolerance, coexistence and equality for everything in a post-war state such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. Having on mind things we mentioned above, Srebrenica was chosen as the place of implementation. Since then, a camp has been held regularly every year in July. On this year’s camp, with the support of the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the emphasis will be on activities related to acquiring knowledge about the processes of reconciliation and peacebuilding. The project was designed to help minority returnees and other socially excluded people in the area of Srebrenica, as well as the wider area of eastern Bosnia, in order to contribute to the sustainability of their return.
The list of activities that will be implemented during the camp is formed in cooperation with the municipality of Srebrenica and in accordance with the projects of IFS-EMMAUS. The activities of the camp include the renovation of houses, water supply and distribution networks, assistance to the population in a state of social need, renovation of city parks, restoration of tourist attraction and monuments, cleaning of rivers and lakes, renovation of schools, roads and similar.
Beside work activities through various educational, entertainment and sports activities, the camp is aimed at gaining knowledge about the processes of reconciliation and peacebuilding. These activities contribute to the promotion of tolerance and dialogue as a basic tool for the development and preservation of peace and also to the promotion of strengthening the active participation of young people in the community. Through various excursions, visits, presentation of customs, traditions of different cultures and religions, camp participants gain new skills, acquaintances and unforgettable experiences.
