The first water well has been completed in the African country of Niger

Thanks to IFS-EMMAUS and our donors, 200 residents received drinking water

The first water well in the Republic of Niger that IFS-EMMAUS build thanks to donors, was officially completed yesterday and handed over for the use to the local population of one province. Over 200 inhabitants will use drinking water from this water well.

Two-thirds of the state territory of the Republic of Niger is located in the Sahara Desert and there is a threat for agricultural production by increasing droughts, the transforming fertile areas into desert and barren soil due to intensive logging.

According to the requirements we had, water well was completed, it is up to 20 meters deep and it is of great importance for the population who have walked several kilometers to the first source of drinking water, so far. Due to the economy and lack of electricity, hand pump was installed on it, and on a plateau around the water well was build trough, which will collect water so that cattle could be fed from it and the water will be used rationally. We thank our first donors who made it possible to build this kind of good deed. Their name will be on the plate above the well. We still continue on cooperation with the A.A.S.H. (Humanitarian Cooperation Service) based in the city of Niamey in the Republic of Niger and we are looking for a new location where it would be most necessary to start building a new water well. A large number of people have already responded to our action and we hope that we will count a few built water wells by the end of the year.
